Residential Treatment for Anxiety

Image

The most effective approach for treating anxiety is through a combination of talk therapy (such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy [CBT] to challenge anxiety provoking thoughts) and learning new skills that are tailored to increase distress tolerance.

Everyone experiences stress and anxiety; however, when anxiety reaches a level that prevents an individual from engaging in life, it becomes important for that individual to explore and challenge their distress with the help of a therapist. Learning the skills needed to tolerate the discomfort is a first step. If social situations produce anxiety, a therapist can help a client learn the types of interpersonal skills needed to keep the anxiety in check.

At Spruce Mountain Inn, we recognize that just meeting with a therapist in an office setting is not enough. This is why treatment for young adults with anxiety takes place not only in the therapist's office but also by engaging with the community (as a means for these young adults to practice what they are learning). Opportunities for outside engagement happen in a variety of settings such as school, employment, and community activities on and off campus.

Residential treatment is an immersive, community-based approach that has the potential to be much more effective than treatment received in someone's typical living environment.

Testimonials

During my son’s stay at Spruce Mountain Inn, I can tell you that the staff was nothing short of INCREDIBLE. The Director, Assistant Director and Case Manager were my main points of communication and they were outstanding! All were highly clinically skilled and communicative and they followed through with everything that we asked and often took the initiative to offer help without our request.
