Spruce Mountain Inn
Career Education & Support
Spruce Mountain Inn’s historic buildings are located in Plainfield, Vermont, a small rural town just 10 minutes outside of Montpelier, our state capital. We sit on a river and are within walking distance to many beautiful recreation areas.
North-central Vermont is a dynamic and charming community known for its outstanding outdoor recreation, diverse cultural and arts resources, picturesque wilderness and farmland, and a sophisticated food and restaurant scene.
In July, 2020, USA Today ranked Montpelier the #2 Best Small Town for Shopping in the US! Montpelier additionally offers the Vermont College of Fine Arts—an excellent branch of The Community College of Vermont—the New England Culinary Institute, theatre companies, live music, movie theatres, activism opportunities, and community festivals. A host of non-profit and political organizations offer a range of interesting work placements for our residents.
Why Our Vermont Community is Ideal for Residential Treatment
Our programming is designed to take advantage of the scenic wilderness of our region as well as the commercial, social and cultural offerings available to us. Spruce residents can be found hitting the slopes at Bolton Valley or Sugarbush Resort, taking in live music at one of Montpelier’s many venues, hiking in Groton State Park, grabbing gourmet pizza at Positive Pie, or swimming in one of our many pristine lakes and ponds.
All residents are encouraged to engage in the community through volunteerism, recreation, education, and the arts as ways of building support systems and practicing skills for independent living.
Testimonials
Being in nature is really therapeutic for me. I participated in two Treks, a river canoeing trip and a hiking trip. I improved my skills and taught my peers, which bolstered my confidence and self-esteem. As a result of the trips, I got to know the Vermont outdoors. I now get out and explore all the time. I have found this is a new way to apply my skills from treatment in a new setting. Sebastian is really a great leader and I learned a lot from him.
The education, the groups, were invaluable. The counselors were A-1. Availability of staff was 24/7. Spruce Mountain Inn saved my life, plain and simple.
I came to the Inn because I needed some intensive treatment. I had a phenomenal team and always had access to all the support I needed. The step-down process really worked for me. I acquired the confidence and skills by volunteering, then holding a job, taking classes, and meeting my commitments. The Program was focused on me and my goals. My biggest goals were to learn to live, to function well, and to stay sober outside of Vermont.
