Spruce Mountain Inn
Where You'll Live
The Inn
“The Inn” (which once served as the residence for Goddard College’s president) serves as our primary residential and clinical building. The Inn houses up to 12 residents in comfortable double or single rooms and features several single-occupant bathrooms. Public areas—including a TV room, living and dining rooms, and a multi-purpose basement activity space—are comfortably furnished and decorated with a home-like feel. Residents are encouraged to bring decorations and other items to personalize their rooms. Residents living at The Inn also have access to the amenities located in The Annex. The Annex is a building located directly across from The Inn. It houses a meeting room, group/TV room, art studio, and three of our five independent living apartments.
Independent Living Programs
A central focus of treatment at Spruce Mountain Inn is related to supporting increased independence. Residents gain and practice a variety of skills relevant to living independently, such as:
- money and medication management.
- transportation skills.
- finding employment.
- culinary skills.
- maintaining a clean living space.
- practicing personal safety.
- self-advocacy skills.
- maintaining healthy personal routines.
As they work their way through the program and begin mastering new skills, residents progress from living in the main residence to living in the on-site Annex apartments. This step allows residents to progress and experience greater levels of freedom and responsibility while remaining engaged with the familiar Spruce community.
The Apartments
The final phase of our program, Greatwood Lodge, epitomizes this transition towards autonomy. Located just a mile from our main campus, Greatwood Lodge provides an ideal setting for residents to apply the skills and knowledge they have acquired throughout their time at Spruce Mountain Inn. Here, residents are required to complete at least 24 hours of work, school, or a combination thereof each week. This requirement is instrumental in reinforcing personal accountability while also facilitating meaningful connections within the broader community. It empowers residents to take ownership of their schedules and responsibilities, fostering a sense of accomplishment as they reintegrate into society.
Our commitment to a gradual reduction of support ensures that residents are not abruptly thrust into complete independence. Instead, they have the opportunity to develop coping strategies, build a supportive network, and embrace the resources available to them. By the time they reach Greatwood Lodge, residents are prepared to thrive beyond the confines of the inn, ready to pursue their goals with confidence. Ultimately, this carefully designed pathway cultivates not only the skills necessary for lasting recovery but also a profound sense of personal empowerment and community belonging that resonates well beyond their time with us.
Greatwood Lodge Program
When a resident is ready for a greater degree of independence, he/she/they will have the opportunity of moving into Greatwood Lodge. Greatwood Lodge is an unstaffed five- bedroom home, located approximately five minutes from our main campus. The Lodge serves as a group living arrangement for participants who demonstrate readiness to move from the apartments to a more independent living situation.
When a resident moves from the on-campus apartments into Greatwood Lodge, the daily rate decreases from $465/day to $333/day. This increased level of independence means a resident will be engaged in obligations such as attending classes or holding a job for a significant portion of their week. A resident at Greatwood Lodge continues to receive support by having access to:
- weekly individual therapy
- weekly family therapy
- weekly meeting with their support worker
- weekly meeting with the career-education development coordinator
- one group therapy sessions per week
- up to five psycho-educational/experiential groups per week
- up to three lunches at the Inn
- up to three dinners at the Inn
Testimonials
Spruce Mountain Inn truly saved my life and gave me a perspective on life that I never knew existed. Spruce will never be a cure, but it is the foundation on which we can all have the ability to live a good life. When I saw the Program with my own two eyes, I felt like there was truly help and hope for me. Everyone must understand that the program isn’t going to work unless you work it. There is a beautiful life after treatment, and I highly recommend living it instead of just existing. If you have the courage to go to treatment, you have the ability to grow and be better
Thank goodness there are people in this world like yourselves , who are so dedicated to helping people like our son and families like ours, who are in dire need. Thank you for all that you are and all that you do.
There are very few places that have provided the quality work with young adults that you have done at Spruce Mountain. The number of clients who have benefitted from Spruce are in the thousands and I credit you for establishing a place where they could get the help they needed.
Why Residential Treatment
Residential treatment programs have the potential to be much more effective than treatment received in someone's typical living environment. Our program is designed to be immersive and community-based.
